You are going to love Issue 3 – it is filled with support and inspiration and opportunities for growth! As we embark on this journey together, I want to emphasise the immense value of collaboration in education
and why our collective efforts can make a profound difference in the lives of our students.
If I have learnt anything through my years in education, it is that you have to do this with people. We are better together. It is not an independent activity. It is very much a collaborative one. It is too much for you to think that you can do the best for all the students in your care by yourself. We all want to give every opportunity to every child and when you work as a team we are able to do just that.
Working as a team allows us to access diversity of thought, and to see things from an alternate point of view and it allows us to lighten the load. Just as we are encouraging our learners in our new Te Ao Tangata | Social Sciences to think about the values and perspectives of other people. We need to think about the values and perspectives of other people in our teams, our schools and our communities. And know - that that starts with you and your willingness to listen to others and hold your ideas lightly.

and research from educators across the sector doing wonderful things in our schools. Read these articles and reflect together to understand each other’s perspectives. Working together in this way will enhance empathy and compassion, improve communication and enrich problem solving and decision making as you create plans together. Whether it is self appointed everyday. book club,
a curriculum team, a syndicate, a department, a mentor and a PCT, a senior leadership team or a kāhui ako, learning and reflecting together using everyday. as a framework will support growth at your place.

There are other daily habits that will support you in your role as an educator too. We believe in reading everyday, moving everyday and breathing everyday (or finding stillness). Life as an educator can be full noise and it is up to us to look after ourselves so that we can do the best we can for the ākonga in our care. Create daily habits that bring you joy to support yourself. Please prioritise this.
Our ākonga need you. They don’t need you to be perfect, they need you to be present. Lean on the support of your team when you need it and use your everyday. habits to support your mahi. Together we can love the work we do each and everyday.
